UFC 195 Results: 7 Things We Learned From Lawler Vs Condit

5. Stipe Miocic Is The Next Heavyweight Challenger

The UFC heavyweight division has undergone quite the metamorphosis from two or so years ago. In a division that was once ruled by the iron hand of Cain Velasquez with Junior Dos Santos nipping at his heels as the clear #2 man on the totem pole, there's a sea of new faces in contention including a handful of guys who were previously thought to be washed up and on the verge of being done with the sport entirely. What the division lacks in star power it makes up for in heavy-handed beasts and key among them is Stipe Miocic. The Croation-American has been on a tear since his UFC debut back in 2011, only suffering two losses during that time to Stefan Struve and Dos Santos. In what we all knew would be a slugfest that would probably end with someone getting slept, Miocic needed just 54 seconds to plant the former UFC HW champion face down on the canvas and make a statement that it was his turn to fight for the belt. And make a statement he did. As soon as the referee stepped in to stop the fight, a fired-up Stipe charged toward Dana White seated cageside and aggressively demanded a title shot. It was a memorable moment that will be used in the promotional packages for his eventual matchup for the championship, and in post-show interviews White all but guaranteed that Miocic would get the winner of the Werdum/Velasquez rematch.
