3. Joseph Benavidez Vs Demetrious Johnson UFC 152, 22nd September 2012

What started life as an underwhelming Pay Per View offering has been transformed into a stacked card by the cancellation of UFC 151. Bumped from the UFC 152 main event are the two finalists in the companys troublesome tournament to crown their inaugural Flyweight World Champion. Their bout should however serve as the perfect action packed co-main event contrast to the spectacle that is to come. Benavidez obliterated former Shooto Bantamweight Champion Yasuhiro Urushitani back in March of this year to earn his shot at the Gold. He would have to wait for his title shot though as the other tournament semi final ended in debacle. A sudden death round was installed just in case either fight ended in an incredibly rare draw. Demetrious Johnsons bout with Ian McCall did just that, except the scorecards were added up incorrectly and the fight was initially announced for Johnson. Once the mistake was realised and the decision overturned the only option was to make the rematch. Mighty Mouse secured the decision victory to set up the title fight. The road to get here might have been longer than the UFC hoped for when they set about creating their newest division but the eventual payoff could be truly spectacular.
