West Brom Transfer News: Bid for Championship Winger Rejected

Baggies initial bid for QPR's Matt Phillips turned down.

West Brom have had a bid for Matt Phillips rejected, according to Sky Sports. The QPR winger has been targeted alongside Charlie Austin by Tony Pulis as he revamps his squad ahead of the new season. Reports suggest that an opening bid of around £5 million was rejected by the London club but as one of the Baggies' top targets a higher offer could be made. It appears that QPR are keen to keep hold of Phillips, who has two years remaining on his contract, but the ex-Blackpool winger may feel that his displays last season warranted a stay in the Premier League. The media attention is largely on the sought-after striker Austin but Phillips impressed last season and would make a good addition for a Premier League club. While QPR struggled throughout the campaign, Phillips managed three goals and eight assists in 25 appearances. Pulis has already signed James McClean from Wigan and the Baggies were willing to spend £10 million on Demba Ba, until Chinese club Shanghai Shenhua snapped up the striker. According to the Mirror, Albion have reportedly entered into an agreement with a Chinese consortium and the impending takeover could mean the Baggies have even more money to spend on new additions.
