West Ham: 10 Reasons Andy Carroll Has Been A Waste Of Money
7. Does He Really Help The Team Score Goals?
Not sat on the bench or in the stands he doesn't. For a striker as tall, powerful and dominant in the air like Andy Carroll, goals and assists should both be healthy totals that he consistently produces. However, Sky Sports revealed an interesting statistic from his time at Upton Park so far, that either with or without him the club is averaging 1.2 goals per game since he joined. Considering what Carroll was brought to the club to do, which is play games, score goals and be a nuisance factor so that other players can get on the score sheet, it doesn't reflect well that his presence in front of goal is not having the effect that the West Ham board, fans, manager or Carroll himself would have wanted. The statistic shows that West Ham may well have been better off looking for other options when they decided to sign Carroll from Liverpool in the summer of 2013, rather than forking out as much as they did to buy the England international.
