West Ham: 10 Reasons Andy Carroll Has Been A Waste Of Money

3. Wilfried Bony

This transfer sequence is especially painful for a lot of West Ham supporters and continues to go and show why they were wrong to target Andy Carroll instead of a deadly finisher that joined Swansea City and recently Manchester City - Wilfried Bony. During the summer of 2013, Bony had been subject of a move to the Premier League following a very successful spell in the Eredivisie with Vitesse, where he scored 31 league goals in 30 games in the 2012/13 season and 51 goals in 69 league games overall. Having accepted bids from both West Ham and Swansea for the Ivory Coast star in the region of £12m, it was Sam Allardyce that decided to go through with the Carroll deal instead and West Ham fans have lamented it since. Bony went on to score 26 league goals in 54 games for the Swans, including being the Premier League's leading scorer in 2014, before sealing a £28m switch to City in January 2015, while West Ham are being left to rue another period of time without Carroll in the team and what could have been if they had signed Bony.
