West Ham: 10 Reasons Andy Carroll Has Been A Waste Of Money

4. The Transfer Fees...

For a man with a goal scoring record of around a goal in every four games and someone who has not played nearly enough games to help West Ham out with their lack of options in attack (at least until this season), you would think that the £80,000 per week wage packet was bad enough for Hammers fans to endure. Yet there is more bad news for fans of the East London club, as not only did the club pay a £2m loan fee to Liverpool for the 2012/13 season, but they then paid a club record fee of £15m to sign him on a permanent basis. For such fees you would expect the England international to be your central figure for years to come, yet he has only played 53 league games for the Hammers since September 2012 and scored 14 goals, which is not something that a club like West Ham can really afford to happen. Still it is not as bad as Liverpool who paid Newcastle £35m for the striker in January 2011.
