Though wing wizard Leroy Sané has surprisingly failed to make the cut for Germany's Russia-bound squad, his Man City teammate İlkay Gündoğan has been given the nod. It's not undeserved. The Gelsenkirchen-born midfielder enjoyed a radiant season installed as the Etihad's Pass-o-Matic, pumping out a continuous supply of precise balls to the perpetual delight of his teammates.

Gündoğan agonisingly missed out on Germany's 2014 triumph, so will be hungrier than most to lead his country to back-to-back success.

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
