Why Steven Fletcher Is Worth Every Penny To Sunderland

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFd4NIuVOdM It wasn€™t the most eye catching signing of the summer transfer window, overshadowed by the thrilling raw talent of Eden Hazard and the colossus of last season€™s Barclays Premier League Robin van Persie who moved to Chelsea and Manchester United respectively, but tucked away in the North East of England, Sunderland€™s manager Martin O€™Neil had his eyes on a particular player in Steven Fletcher. A puzzling choice for many at the time; a well thought of €˜decent€™ player for a bottom half side with little in the way of aspirations other than avoiding relegation. However, O€™Neil was convinced that Fletcher was no mere €˜decent€™ player and was in fact a diamond in the rough, a diamond in the end worth a possible £14 million. On 22nd August Fletcher made his big money move from the Molineux to the Stadium of Light where he was destined to make an instant impact. Scoring twice on his Sunderland debut against Swansea and one in each of his next three matches against Liverpool, West Ham and Wigan, giving him an impressive total of five goals in five league games. To some, this current goal scoring form is just that€ form. However, to others the rate of scoring and importance of these goals was inevitable. Despite only scoring twelve goals for Wolves last season he still managed most headed goals scored (seven), a tasty thought for the Black Cat faithful now they have former Manchester City benchwarmer Adam Johnson in their side. Though there is more to Fletcher than a man who can make a good head of a cross or set piece, quite simply he has almost a gunslinger€™s sense of lethal accuracy, firing in four goals from his first four shots and with the Barclays Premier League in full swing every shot counts. O€™Neil€™s Sunderland are currently sitting in 13th place with 7 points from five games with Fletcher scoring more than half of the Black Cats€™ goals and are as of yet one of the only three unbeaten sides in the league along with the Barclays Premier League champions Manchester City and Champions League winners Chelsea. Money well spent? Definitely!
