Wigan vs Liverpool - Team News, Match Preview & Likely Line-Ups

Date: Saturday, March 2nd Venue: DW Stadium K/o: 17:30

Team News

Wigan could hand a first start in six months to defender Antolin Alcaraz, who has returned from a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a groin injury. Ryo Miyaichi is also close to returning from his lengthy layoff with an ankle injury, though this game may come too soon for the winger. Liverpool could be without January signing Daniel Sturridge after the former Chelsea striker aggravated a thigh injury, though Martin Skrtel is available for selection having overcome a knee injury. Fabio Borini and Martin Kelly are the only other notable absentees for Brendan Rodgers' side.

Match Preview

Wigan ended a 7-match winless streak with victory over fellow Premier League strugglers Reading last week, and though they are four points better off than they were this time a year ago, Roberto Martinez' side can ill afford to rest on their laurels considering they are just about inching out Aston Villa one place above the dreaded drop zone and a result here would go some way to securing their very Premier League survival. Liverpool meanwhile have loftier ambitions in mind, and can leapfrog West Brom and Everton into 6th place dependent upon results elsewhere. If Brendan Rodgers' side are to cement their ambitions in a European spot this season however, they will have to put an end to a rather miserable run of form at the DW Stadium - Wigan are unbeaten in their last four games against the Reds, stretching back to 2010.
