World Cup 2014: 25 Most Memorable Moments
9. Jonathan Pearce Not Understanding Goal-line Technology
Ever since Frank Lampards goal four years ago, goal-line technology has been called for at all levels and for the first time at a World Cup it was available.
It was first needed in the game between France and Honduras, when a Karim Benzema shot hit the inside of the post and the keeper scrambled the ball away: the referee signalled goal and all eyes turned to the technology.
The replay showed both when the ball hit the post (which was no goal) and when it resultantly went over the line, but commentator Jonathan Pearce couldnt quite grasp this: Oh my goodness they have changed their minds Pearce shouted and rambled on about how it wasnt the system used in the Premier League. Even with Martin Keowns best attempts to explain the situation it was all too much for Pearce.
Pearce wasnt the only commentator to fluff his lines tournament: we had Clark Carlise judging the quality of the Ecuadorian attack by the fact that the Columbian striker, Jackson Martinez, wasnt selected and Danny Murphy repeatedly calling Chile midfielder, Aranguiz, his former team-mate Aaron Hughes.
8. Costa Rica Top Group D
Before this tournament no one gave Costa Rica a chance of winning a game never mind topping the group and progressing to the quarter finals only for Tim Krul to stop them in their tracks.
Costa Ricas incredible campaign had some incredible highlights like their second half comeback against Uruguay, the flawless penalty taking against Greece and the saves of Kaylor Navas against Holland. But the best Costa Rican moment was Bryan Ruizs header against Italy that meant they were through to the knock-out stages. The joy on the players' and coaches' faces was unbelievable and they totally deserved it as they kept on believing and against all the odds topped the group filled with former World Cup winners.
