World Cup 2014: 5 Alternatives To Theo Walcott For England

5. Nathan Redmond

I would be the first to admit that Nathan Redmond would not be on many people€™s list to go to the World Cup. However, Walcott€™s injury means that the Norwich City winger is that little bit closer to be selected. Redmond is in his debut season in the Premier League and has certainly impressed with his performances. He hasn€™t yet won his first cap for England, but has been involved with his country at various youth levels €“ that includes currently being part of the U21 team. The transition from the U21 side to the senior team is something plenty of players have done in the past. However, some people will be concerned that the World Cup this year will come too soon for him. However, his league stats this season suggest that he should be being look at. Redmond excels in particular for his eagerness to take shots and the damage he can do with the ball at his feet; this has resulted in 2.6 shots per match and 1.8 dribbles. Both of those stats puts him within the top 20 of all players in the EPL. Critics would say that he needs more experience and to improve his decision making €“ but he has scored in the league this season as well as providing three assists. The player is just 19 years old, so it would be foolish to suggest that he is the finished article. However, he€™s an exciting player that can make things happen €“ just like Walcott. Furthermore, he has the ability to play on either the left or right wing, something that would certainly give Hodgson options when he only has 23 players to choose from.
