World Cup 2014: 5 Reasons Jay Rodriguez Should Go Ahead Of Danny Welbeck

4. Rodriguez Is Just As Versatile As Welbeck

Some people might take the view that the reason to take Welbeck is his ability to perform a number of different roles such as playing wide or as an attacking midfielder, as well being able to play as a striker. However, that versatility is not the exclusive ability of the Man Utd attacker. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that Rodriguez is equally as capable of playing in those different roles. In fact, data from this season shows that the player has played on both flanks, as an attacking midfielder and a central striker this season. It€™s certainly interesting to note that he has been used most often as an attacking left winger €“ which shows that he is able to impact games in a role that might not be his preferred position. There is also an argument that Rodriguez is more dangerous aside from his actual goal return. The player takes 2.3 shots per match compared to two for Welbeck. Man Utd have slightly more shots per match of 13.3 compared to Southampton€™s tally of 13, offering another hint at how well Rodriguez is performing for his team this season.
