World Cup 2014: 8 Players Who Can Win It For Their Country

4. Diego Costa (Spain)

Current Odds: 13/2

From one warrior of Atletico Madrid's stella season to another, enter Brazilian-born Diego Costa, whom created a bit of a stir last year when he was granted the right to represent his adopted nation Spain, despite having featured for the Brazilian national side in the past.

Ironically, with Brazil lacking a powerhouse centre-forward in their squad, Costa looks set to be cast in the role of villain in this particular story, especially with the glaring possibility of a Brazil vs. Spain blockbuster in the last 16, should Brazil top their group (a likelihood) and Spain fail to top theirs (easily possible).

Costa's robust physicality and never-say-die attitude would, ultimately, bolster any side but it's Spain who are set to benefit from his particular brand of football. Sorely lacking in exactly that, robust physicality, Costa brings a dynamism to a Spanish side in the midst of a potential changing of the guard and style. Still loaded to the back teeth with raw class and talent, Spain are not a side to be written off, despite the disappointing season Barcelona have had and the advancing age of some of their players (i.e. Xavi, Xabi Alonso, Iniesta and Villa).

It is worth baring in mind that, with the exception of the Confederations Cup, Spain have only lost once in a competitive international match in, wait for it... 8 years, that being a 1-0 defeat to Switzerland in their opening match of World Cup 2010. Seen as the outsiders of the 4 teams most people are giving any real chance of taking the trophy home, with the likes of Costa boosting a technically marvellous team up top, they are by no means incapable of making it 4 majors in a row.
