World Cup 2018: 6 England Players Whose Stock Rose (And 3 Whose Dropped)

4. Up - Ashley Young

Even as little as a year or two ago, England fans everywhere (particular those loyal to Aston Villa and Manchester United) would have told you Ashley Young was far past his prime and completely out of the question in terms of an England return.

However, after suffering through a period of over four years without a single England call up, Young burst back on the scene, impressing Gareth Southgate enough to be noticed once more. Since being moved to a left wing back position for his club, the former Villa attacker has improved his game ten fold, and has become a solid addition to the England set up, in terms of both attacking and defending.

Young, ironically the oldest member of the squad, comfortably beat Danny Rose to the starting position in Russia, offering experience and guidance to the rest of the much younger squad around him, and impressed as part of possibly the best wing back combination at the tournament.
