10 Anime That Have No Right To Be This Good
6. Ya Boy Kongming
It's time now to take another dive into isekai, but this time it's a reverse version, where someone from a fascinating land is reborn into the modern world.
As the ancient Chinese strategist Kongming lies on his deathbed, he finds himself reborn in modern-day Japan. There, he is entranced by the music of a local singer, Eiko, and offers his services to help her achieve her dreams and cure the world through music.
You might be able to tell here that the concept is utterly bonkers. An ancient strategist helping someone navigate the music industry sounds like the product of some pretty intense narcotics, but that's where the show thrives.
Kongming's fascinating strategies genuinely keep you on edge, and you're suckered in so easily as you want to see Eiko succeed. Her dreams are constantly hung by a thread, giving Kongming's risky plans incredibly high (and believable) stakes.
Still, the show's biggest highlight is the spectacular musical sequences. The songs are catchy, emotional and full of soul, which, when combined with the punchy and energetic direction, give Eiko's performances all the energy of a real-life Beyoncé concert.
It's a show that could have been lazy and average but excels thanks to its passion for music and live performance.
