10 Best Anime TV Series Of 2016 (So Far)

4. Re: Zero - Starting Life In Another World (Re: Zero Kara Hajimeru Isekai Seikatsu)

My Hero Academia 2
White Fox

Natsuki Subaru is a little selfish, often rude, and not very likable. He finds himself in a fantasy world, where he comes back to life after dying, and remembers the trauma and pain of each death he suffers.

This concept adds depth to the character, and shows the lengths one would go to, to avoid the pain of death. The cast of Re: Zero is fantastic, and what is a recurring, often boring plot line in the anime world- otaku falls into a fantasy world where he becomes a hero- is done here with such taste and focus on real human emotions, that sets it apart from any series that has come before it.

Natsuki’s adventures through this new land are captivating and often surprising, keeping viewers on their toes as they watch this average yet real protagonist deal with the situation he is in.

I like to think of myself as a world traveler and social butterfly, although I do spend a lot of my time watching the latest Japanese anime series, sitcoms, movies, and drama series. I live on the island of Crete, where I was born, and enjoy walking on the beach with my little cocker spaniel, Molly, when I'm not writing for WhatCulture.com and UNILAD.co.uk.
