10 Best Pike Moments In Star Trek Discovery

9. Saving Burnham

Star Trek Discovery Pike
CBS

After finding Reno in the wreckage of the USS Hiwatha, they find themselves stuck without a transporter. As this is Star Trek, a few juryrigs later and it will be back to proper functionality. Burnham works quickly to get the machine operational with Pike encouraging her to make sure she gets back to the pad in time. An explosion pushes her through the open door and, though he tries to run after her, he is beamed away.

As the Hiwatha begins to collapse around her, Burnham runs as fast as possible away from the debris and fires. She manages to escape the brunt, yet then is blasted into unconsciousness, waking to her leg impaled by molten steel.

Here beings the Red Angel storyline of season two. She sees the being walking slowly toward her, keeping her focus. From the shadow of the Angel, Pike suddenly reappears.

There has long been something of a running joke in Star Trek that the captain of a Starship is never supposed to beam down to a hazardous situation, and the proceeds to do so anyway. While this is, on the one hand, simply the latest occurance of this, it is also proof from the very beginning that Pike is willing to put himself in mortal danger to keep his crew safe.

And this was his first episode. What a way to enter.
