10 Doctor Who Comic Book Characters Who Should Appear In The Show
4. Kroton The Cyberman
The TV series has attempted to humanise the Cybermen, but nothing comes close to this heroic Cyberman who served as a companion to the Eighth Doctor. Maintaining his humanity, emotions, and individuality after his Cyber-upgrade, Kroton was considered defective - but not to the Doctor. Originally introduced in the pages of DWM as a one-off, Kroton's popularity allowed him to return to the Whoniverse consistently as an ally to our time-travelling hero.
When his past was stripped away from him, Kroton managed to hold onto what made him 'alive'. Questioning his orders to hate, kill, and conquer, Kroton rebelled against the Cybermen and his Cyber-programming and fled into space. Trapped in his craft, his batteries slowly died out. He was reactivated by human travellers and eventually met the Doctor, who joined them in the TARDIS in a fight with the Master.
Saving the Doctor and his companion's life, Kroton was given the opportunity to travel the universe as a free man. Armed with all the powers of a regular Cyberman but all of the qualities of a human, and utilising a magnetic energy staff as a weapon in close-combat, Kroton was easily one of the most powerful and unique Cybermen to ever exist.
It would be great to see this Cyberman on-screen in its classic Invasion-inspired design and following out a vendetta against his fellow Cybermen. Companions such as 'Handles' in 2013's The Time of the Doctor and Danny Pink have emulated this intriguing character, but Kroton would definitely be a welcome addition to the on-screen canon.
Galactic Rating: 'Excellent'.
