John Oliver's appearance in the show will always be one of the most popular supporting roles amongst the fans because of just how much fun Oliver was to watch on-screen as Professor Ian Duncan.

He is often shown to be a totally narcissistic and toxic personality at Greendale, much like many of the other people there. However, the difference with Duncan is that he is actually often right about the situations he is able to analyse.

As the Professor of Psychology, Duncan has often used it to his own end in trying to get Britta to sleep with him. But, when we look at Duncan's actions and the way he has diagnosed people over the run of the show, he has often been right. In-particular when he was trying to help Abed through his repressed feelings at Christmas.

The theory that Reddit user /awesomeness0232/ states that it is only Duncan's alcoholism and narcissistic personality (which may have been caused by his own repressed feelings and loneliness) that holds him back from being a brilliant psychologist.

Whilst this looks to be a theory with a good amount of weight to it, especially when looking at Duncan's record when it comes to diagnosing people. We should remember that this is Greendale, he may have just got lucky a few times and appeared to be a competent psychologist, when in reality he is just as hapless as the rest of them.
