10 Most Messed Up Deaths In Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

2. Amin Maritza - Duet

Amin Maritza is a name that will rarely appear in the great annals of Cardassian history, though he was emblamatic of the collective guilt felt by so many survivors of the Occupation.

His final days were marred in a misguided attempt to bring Gul Darheel, the long dead Butcher Of Gallitep, to justice. His plan, to play the part right through until execution, was noble, though as Kira put it, simply condemning another innocent person to death.

He felt bitter that his attempt was thwarted, believing Kira to have robbed a chance for healing. He was cut short, and cut down, by a random Bajoran man on the promenade. With no warning, nor motive other than 'he's a Cardassian', the man stabbed Maritza in the back. He died believing that Cardassia could never heal from the wounds of its guilt, even if he did receive the forgiveness of a single Bajoran - Kira herself - before he slipped away.
