10 Most Messed Up Deaths In Star Trek: Deep Space Nine

1. Vedek Bareil - Life Support

Bareil died slowly, piece by piece, carved away by the need to keep him around long enough to conclude peace talks. It was an ignoble death, despite the nobility of what he was trying to do. Watching him go through it was painful, not just for Kira, who loved him, but for Bashir, who was forced to do the carving.

The episode Life Support sees the death of this once great contender for Kai, locked into his fate. Though there are moments of humanity, so to speak, from Kai Winn as he suffers, she wastes no time in claiming credit for his achievements when the talks finally conclude.

By the time the end arrives, it is hard to say how much of the man Kira loved remained to actually die, or if he was mostly gone already. It was a slow, sad ending, one that Kira would never truly recover from.
