10 Most Shocking Moments Of True Detective Season 2 Episode 2

6. Frank's Goons Attack The Mayor

The character of Mayor Chessani was further explored in Episode 2, revealing him to be an incredibly shady figure. This is no surprise, given Vinci's well-documented culture of corruption, but certainly didn't protect him from the city's criminal elements - namely Frank and his mobsters. The goons rear-end the mayor's car, wait for him to emerge, and blind him with pepper spray. They leave him beaten on the side of the road, allowing a thinly-disguised Frank to jog over and "check if he's okay". Frank's intimidating antics are clearly a result of his threatened status - the murder of his business partner has left him heavily out of pocket - but it's also his most jovial moment in the series so far. For all his determination to gradually go straight, eventually leaving his criminal past behind, there's no denying that part of Frank seemed to enjoy doing dirty work again.
