10 Most Shocking Moments Of True Detective Season 2 Episode 2
3. Ray And Ani Are Actually Getting Along!
Season 1 was dominated by the constant bickering of Rust and Marty, a pair of characters philosophically at odds with one another. In surprising contrast, Ray and Ani's time alone while investigating the case has seen a few bonds begin to form. Although a tense atmosphere pervades, they reveal previously hidden details of themselves to each other. Ani explains her reason for carrying knives on her person at all times (and her generally hostile attitude): "The fundamental difference between the sexes is that one can kill the other with their bare hands". Ray, in turn, acknowledges that he is a shady figure, correctly guessing that Ani has been tipped off about his suspected corruption. However, he stops of admitting to these criminal links outright. In one of the episode's most crucial moments, Ray reveals to Ani that he believes something sinister is going on behind the scenes of the Caspere case. He implies that their solving of the murder could reveal some carefully hidden truths about Vinci, bringing the whole city down in the process. Although neither cop is likely to follow orders and sacrifice their investigation for the good of a corrupt superior, they're likely to meet considerable opposition along the way.
