10 Problems With Constantine That Got It Cancelled
5. Or Grimm, For That Matter
Whilst NBC obviously didn't explicitly state Constantine was supposed to follow the template set down by Supernatural, they very much did push the show as a companion piece to their other mystical procedural series. Grimm debuted in 2011 and, unlike Constantine, it's currently gearing up for its fifth season. How come Grimm gets to live when Constantine was on the chopping block after its first thirteen-episode run? Well, for one thing, as much as they tried and beat Hellblazer into a recognisable Grimm/Supernatural shape (and thus with a wide enough appeal to bring in a big audience), there's still enough in the original source material that resists that reformatting. For another, the fact that Grimm existed meant that Constantine was surplus to requirements. Fans only have room for so many supernatural dramas in their life (and on their DVR). Between Grimm, Supernatural, Once Upon A Time, the Once Upon A Time spin-off, and Sleepy Hollow... well, it didn't bring all that much different to the table.
