Brooklyn Nine-Nine has managed to carve a strange little niche for itself.

It's a police show set in New York, but it's more light-hearted than it is gritty. It deals deftly with delicate subject matter with a lot of respect, and it features a cast of diverse characters that share nothing but love for one another.

It's the sort of show that gives everyone something to relate to, and it does it all without resorting to gross-out humour or offending anyone.

It's funny enough that you may not always stop to think about the emotions it makes you feel, or the way in which it challenges you to re-assess aspects of our society.

We see the squad deal with racial profiling, homophobia, and addiction. We also see Peralta instantly drop his lifelong hero for the use of one single homophobic slur, and if that doesn't give you something to feel positive about then you have a heart of stone.

So whether your favourite aspect of it is Boyle's weirdly sexual food obsession, Holt's unorthodox way of expressing his love, or Jake's downright goofiness, there's something for everyone to enjoy.
