10 Times Doctor Who Daleks Appeared Where You'd Least Expect Them

1. A Dalek Sells Cigars

The Daleks have tried many different plots to wipe out humanity over the years; plagues, time destructors, reality bombs. Thanks to the Doctor and their companions, these nefarious schemes have been foiled. One of the Daleks' most nefarious plots to wipe out mankind was by getting in league with big tobacco!

The advert features a slightly wonky looking grey and silver Dalek gliding through a warehouse, on the way to exterminate the Doctor, the Thals or some interchangeable space rebels. When the Dalek bumps up against a flight of stairs, it gives up on its reign of terror and decides to spark up a cigar. A decidedly off-brand (or bronchial) Dalek voice then delivers the catchphrase "Hamlet. The Mild Cigar".

The advert never aired, perhaps because Terry Nation objected to his unstoppable killing machines only smoking mild cigars rather than rough shag tobacco. More likely, permission was denied by Nation and the BBC due to the Daleks' connection with a children's show. Evil space fascists the Daleks may be, but it would be wholly inappropriate for them to introduce a nation's kids to cigars, mild or otherwise!
