10 Times Doctor Who Daleks Appeared Where You'd Least Expect Them

2. A Dalek in an English Pond

A local group of environmentalist volunteers were shocked to discover a Dalek head in a Hampshire pond in 2009. They were cleaning the pond near Beaulieu of the accumulated items of rubbish that had been carelessly tossed in over the years. Alongside the shopping trolleys, Marc Oakland eventually pulled a full-size, slightly damaged, Dalek head from the depths.

They believed the prop may have been misplaced during filming of Revelation of the Daleks, which had taken place in the area during the 1980s. In order to safeguard the newly dredged pond from more litter, Oakland and his group refused to disclose the location of the Dalek pond. It was also an attempt to safeguard the lives of Doctor Who fans who may be tempted to get their waders on to try and retrieve the remaining parts of the Dalek.

The head was being held to be examined by a Dalek expert, but nothing more was heard about it. Given that the story doesn't feature on the exhaustive Dalek resource Dalek6388, perhaps it was merely a publicity stunt to drum up interest in cleaning up UK waterways. Or maybe an angry David Tennant fan had thrown their prop Dalek head in a pond to protest his departure.
