10 TV Shows That Worked Despite Their Absurd Premise

8. BoJack Horseman

There have been some truly special TV shows to come from Netflix over the last few years, but few are on the same level as BoJack Horseman. While the animated genre is becoming increasingly saturated, this Netflix original still stands out from the rest.

The town of Hollywoo (formerly Hollywood before BoJack stole the D from the legendary sign), is populated by a mix of both humans and anthropomorphic animals. From BoJack the horse and Mr. Peanutbutter the dog, to Woodchuck Coodchuck-Berkowitz and many more, this makes for a completely unique setting.

Things get weirder still, as you wouldn’t expect an animated show about a humanised bipedal talking horse to be as heavy hitting as it was. Tackling real issues without shying away from the gritty reality of things like mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse, and crippling loneliness, BoJack Horseman was one of the most real shows out there.

And yet, the other side of that coin was Todd’s completely off the wall, ridiculous misadventures and hijinks. Neither of these aspects of the show should work on their own, and yet they were somehow brought together to balance each other out and make one of the most outstanding TV series in recent memory.
