10 Unanswered Doctor Who Mysteries
7. What Is The Doctor’s Name?
Labelling our favourite character's name as 'Doctor Who' has been a bugbear of many a Whovian throughout the years. It's not his name, it's the name of the show damn it! Or so we think. The credits for the first four seasons labelled him as Doctor Who and Missy cheekily stated this as his name during the penultimate episode of Series 10, World Enough and Time.
The question as to what his name is continues to rage, and one can only hope that Moffatt was pulling our leg with Missy's 'revelation'. The mystery of the Doctor's true name became an integral plot point within Matt Smith's story arc, with the idea of his name holding significant power almost making his title seem like a potential universe crushing threat.
The question of the Doctor's name became less of a focus in Capaldi and Whittaker's time as the Timelord, but recent revelations re the Timeless Child has thrown a new light on the question. Was the name that seemingly holds so much power given to him by the Timelords? Or was it his/her birth name given to The Doctor on their planet of origin? Perhaps the Doctor doesn't even remember it fully.
Show runner Chris Chibnall seems to be answering a number of old mysteries, so it will be interesting to see if and how he addresses this question. One hopes the answer isn't simply 'the timeless child', as that would be a severe let down.
