10 Underrated TV Shows You Need To Start Watching

6. Tokyo Vice

Copenhagen Cowboy
HBO Max

Michael Mann's crime thriller series Tokyo Vice was released last spring to solid reviews, and despite the maelstrom of controversy still surrounding lead actor Ansel Elgort, it performed well enough for HBO to greenlight a second season, which is currently shooting and likely to wrap by mid-year.

As much as yet another crime drama about a white guy protagonist infiltrating the corridors of a Japanese crime syndicate might make your eyes roll, Tokyo Vice is an uncommonly gripping serial, elevated by its meticulous attention-to-detail, entertaining cast of characters, and sharp performances across the board.

Even with its renewal, Tokyo Vice's first season quickly came and went without making much of a dent in the mainstream discourse, despite rocking a unique flavour compared to just about every other crime series on TV right now.

It's the best thing Mann's been involved with for years, and has serious potential to grow into itself if it runs for multiple additional seasons.
