13 Doctor Who Guest Stars Who Were Tragically Underused

6. Olivia Colman

Doctor Who fans had long been calling for Olivia Colman to guest in the series so when they finally got their wish and she appeared on screen for all of five minutes as 'Mother' in 2010's The Eleventh Hour, it was disappointing to say the least. At this point she was probably best known for her portrayal of Sophie Chapman in the hit Channel 4 comedy series Peep Show but she has since proven that she's a formidable on screen force to be reckoned with. Most recently she achieved critical acclaim for her show stopping performance as Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller in ITV's crime drama Broadchurch (also starring Tenth Doctor David Tennant) for which she took home a BAFTA for Best Actress and received a nomination at the International Emmy's. She was also praised for her role in Paddy Considine's 2011 directorial debut Tyrannosaur which won her a British Independent Film Award. She was always destined for greatness and although it's great that she was given the chance to leave her mark on the Doctor Who mythology, it's a real shame she wasn't given the spotlight she deserves.
