You can list plenty of things that make Attack on Titan special, and one of the most prominent is how far the show changes as it progresses. Looking back on season one compared to season four is mind-blowing, as they're almost entirely different shows. There's another classic series that does the same thing, but all in one season.

Neon Genesis Evangelion takes place in an alternate world where humanity is attacked by massive creatures known as Angels. To combat these threats, an advanced organisation known as Nerv sends out mechanical fighting machines known as Evas, piloted by young teens. The show follows Shinji, the son of the head of Nerv, as he balances his emotional problems with fighting giant monsters.

The show is more than it seems on the surface. It lures you in with a lighter tone and fighting mechs, then evolves into a thoughtful exploration of life, philosophy, loneliness, art, and other complex issues. That's right, like the Transformers themselves, these machines are more than meets the eye.

Plus, it even has a set of movies retelling the events of the series with modern animation and alterations to the story. There's a lot to be watched, and you won't regret giving it a go.
