25 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows Of All Time

21. Westworld

The X Files
HBO

Based on the novel by Michael Crichton (and the 1973 film), Westworld is set in something of a futuristic world in which a Wild West theme park is the main attraction for tourists with money because its seemingly harmless androids/hosts can help them live out their, well, fantasies. However, as things play out, a number of these hosts begin to hold onto their memories and experiences, using them to learn, adapt and, eventually, reign supreme.

Like with most tech-centric shows, there's a tale in there somewhere about humanity's stupidity when it comes to trusting technology to do things we shouldn't allow it to, but perhaps Westworld's greatest attributes are the intricacies with which it is all handled.

The narrative is told with the utmost of care, taking its time to intentionally confound viewers and make us think, while the actors involved are sublime in their bid to seduce us with the words that they speak. And just like that, it's easy to see why the Westworld park is so alluring to those within this fictional world, because the show itself is every bit as enticing.
