25 Greatest Sci-Fi TV Shows Of All Time

22. Dollhouse

The X Files
Fox

Joss Whedon's status as a TV visionary saw him come up with some of the most ambitious television concepts of all time, and the short-lived Dollhouse was undoubtedly one of them.

Set in a bizarre world in which 'Dollhouses' are a thing, the show centers on one specific Dollhouse and, by extension, one specific 'Doll' (or, as the show tended to refer to them, 'Actives') - a person whose mind is essentially a blank canvas and can temporarily be programmed with specific personalities based on whatever the Dollhouse's client requires them to be. And the show documented the primary Active Echo and her journey towards remembering who she once was and what she was capable of.

Though it hasn't quite yet reached the cult status of fellow truncated Whedon series Firefly, Dollhouse grows more popular with age as more and more fans discover the outlandish gem. It's just a shame it didn't have a longer run on the air because, like Whedon's Buffy The Vampire Slayer, the show pushed boundaries, set new standards and benefited from an always-compelling lead performance from Eliza Dushku.
