9 Underrated '90s TV Shows You Need To Watch

7. King Of The Hill

One of the most frequent criticisms aimed at King Of The Hill is that the show, for a comedy, simply isn't funny enough. Nothing could be further from the truth. Set in Arlen, Texas the show centres around the Hills, a family of hard-working, conservative and apparently normal people. The pleasure from King Of The Hill comes from absurdity of this normality and how 'boring' father Hank Hill is. Further entertainment is provided by Hank's eccentric friends: conspiracy theorist Dale Gribble, ladies man and gibberish-speaking Boomhauer and lovelorn loser Bill. The show plays up the small town dynamics and can be genuinely touching. Popular in the US, the show has failed to find an audience in the UK. Only the first five seasons are available on DVD here, apparently due to low demand. Whereas The Simpsons, Futurama and other animated American sitcoms are very popular in the UK, King Of The Hill isn't. Perhaps it is the understated humour or Texas setting that are putting Brits off. A show that really grows on you the more you watch it, King Of The Hill deserves more recognition than it currently gets.
