7. The Countess Was Looking For The Antichrist
There are plenty of reasons why you wouldn’t want to check in for a stay at the Hotel Cortez from the show’s fifth season. On top of the murderous souls trapped there, there’s also the resident Addiction Demon, an eccentric serial killer, and the vampiric Countess (Lady Gaga) who owns the establishment.
Aside from being a lavishly dressed bloodsucker, one of the Countess’s quirks is her hobby for collecting young blonde children, who she keeps in glass coffins at the hotel. It’s a detail that fits with the series’ strange style and helps to characterise the Countess as a mothering figure, but there’s no concrete reason why it’s only blonde children she abducts – a detail highlighted by Ryan Murphy himself.
One theory that could answer this question explains that she is actively looking for the antichrist, a young blonde boy named Michael Langdon, who was born at the end of the first season and came into their own during Apocalypse.
Given that Murder House and Hotel both take place in Los Angles, it’s possible that the Countess would be aware of Michael’s existence. She could have even been informed about him by minor characters who connect both seasons together.
