BoJack Horseman Season Six: 10 Best Moments
8. When Wasn’t My First Drink?
In the first episode of the season, we see BoJack being asked about his first ever drink. Still struggling to get into the spirit of therapy, he deflects the question away with a joke: when wasn’t my first drink?
The line actually becomes the theme of the episode though, as we see an ever younger BoJack taking what appears to be his first drink, before an even younger BoJack pulls the rug from under us.
Initially we see him plied with OJ and vodka on set to help his nerves, to help with his first kiss. Next he’s at a party, offered beer by a classmate, and takes it to fit in with the cool kids. Unfortunately, he ends up hurting a girl he seems to like, and it looks like his first experience of alcohol is one tinged with negativity.
After that though, we’re shown an even younger BoJack being essentially bribed with alcohol by his dad to keep quiet about an affair. All the way through, he’s been pressured into it: it’s someone else’s fault.
The final scene though shows his true first time, sneaking downstairs after a party to steal his parents’ vodka. He has no one to blame but himself.
