Brooklyn Nine-Nine: Every Season 7 Episode Ranked Worst To Best
9. Ep. 8: The Takeback
Everybody loves Doug Judy, which is probably why he appears in at least one episode per season. Whenever the Pontiac Bandit (played to perfection by Craig Robinson) is on the scene, it's guaranteed that a good time will be had by all. His Season 7 outing is no exception.
With the dynamic between Jake and Doug now firmly in the friend camp, Jake is naturally crushed when he learns that Doug hasn't invited him to his wedding. Judy's explanation is that most of his friends are criminals who wouldn't be comfortable with a cop present. This leads to an amusing set up where Jake has to pretend to be a criminal in order to attend Judy's bachelor party. Then things only get worse when Judy's friends go ahead and steal some diamonds, leading to Jake and Judy having to orchestrate a "reverse heist".
The Jokes practically write themselves with a set up like this, but they're elevated to new heights by the chemistry between Robinson and Andy Samberg. It's always such a treat seeing them together, bouncing off one another, especially now that Judy uses his powers of manipulation for good rather than evil. Then of course there's the reverse heist, which memorably sees Jake posing as an ASMR Twitch streamer in a hilarious performance that has echoes of Samberg's Lonely Island character, Shy Ronnie.
It's a fun episode that features the annual return of one of the show's most beloved characters. If that's not reason enough to love it, what is?
