Community: 10 Worst Characters Who Appeared After Season One

7. Prof. Noel Cornwallis

Magnitude Community
Sony Pictures Television

Played by: Malcolm McDowell

This might indeed be the biggest waste of talent in the entirety of the show. Well, there may be one more that stands above even the great Malcolm McDowell in terms of underutilisation. However, it's ululating in the most dire sense that his character is basically just another one of the faculty staff with nothing interesting about, or devoted to, him.

Unlike most other guest stars, McDowell was featured in two episodes, which itself is a head-scratcher, but the storylines that he's used in are just the most underwhelming ideas ever and they could've easily slotted anyone else into the role.

His first appearance comes in - you guessed it - season 4. And just like every other featured guest star of season 4, the writers have no idea what to do with them. In the end, they resort to him setting the plot in motion, with practically nothing else to do outside of it.

He regains a few brownie points when his second appearance brings him into direct conflict with the study group after he's invited to spend Christmas with them; an invitation that would subsequently lead to him being tied up and held hostage over a measly bad grade. It sounds contrived, but in a series like Community, this is exactly the ridiculous sort of story beat that would work perfectly.

That's only when the show creator is the show runner though, which relegates McDowell's dually pointless performances to nothing more than a missed opportunity, ultimately.
