Doctor Who: 10 Ways Danny Pink Could Surprise Us

5. Danny Pink Is A Romantic Interest

This is a notion that has come upon a number of sites, with Danny becoming an interest for Clara, but with this new version of the series, anything's possible. Genders cross-species, especially alien species, may not mean nearly as much, and if the new Doctor's as much of a xenophile as the Ninth and Tenth Doctors were, anything is possible. That said, a different romantic interest for Clara would be just as reasonable, and she may need someone a bit "safer" to hold onto if Twelve is going to be as erratic and dark as some people suggest. As a plot thread, though, it seems all too obvious, and with so many more options out there to produce stories without this same romance angle reoccurring so often, it would be good to see this going in a different direction. It is worth noting that this would combine rather well with any of the other concepts listed, where Danny is serving some ulterior motive in either joining or watching the TARDIS crew. The interesting possibility for betrayals of trust, double-crosses, multiple hidden agendas, and plot twists (especially plot twists that don't necessarily need much quasi-science to justify them to the audience) might actually add something to the show... at least as long as it didn't turn things too far toward Soap Opera Land.
