In Smith's final moments on screen as the bow tie wearing time traveler, he was allowed one last scene with Amy Pond, as the two shared an emotional embrace before he bowed out. This was fairly cheesy, but just about acceptable. The main culprit of the cheesy Who ending was Russell T. Davies' treatment of Tennant's finale. People may disagree with me, but the Doctor whining "I DON'T WANT TO GO!" not only made the Doctor seem pathetic, but was an over the top and cheesy salute to an actor leaving the show. It's definitely up for debate, but when it comes to the Doctor regenerating, he surely retains his memories, if not characteristics of previous incarnations, due to the fact that he happily recounts tales of his previous adventures all the time. Therefore a self-pitying end, whether it be "I don't want to go" or "I'll enjoy when the Doctor was me" (at least the second one is more acceptable), is totally uncalled for...as he's still the Doctor after the change, albeit with a different face. May well be slightly heartless, but there you have it, the Doctor lives on through the regeneration, often carrying on his adventures with the companion who witnessed his transformation, so why pretend like he is dying and being replaced by someone new? Cut out the cheese and get on with the cool sci-fi stuff, I say. Are there any things you'd like to see the Doctor avoid in the new series? Anything you'd like to see more of?
