One of the biggest barriers for non fans is that the main antagonists of the franchise - the Daleks - just kinda look silly (c'mon guys, they do). So if you have a friend who wants to get into the show but has that particular hangup among others, then this right here is the perfect episode to show them.

The Doctor and Rose come across a reclusive billionaire who spends his time collecting and hoarding alien tech. One of which happens to be the last remaining Dalek. After manipulating Rose into placing her hand on its chasis, thus giving it the genetic material needed to repair itself and break free, the Dalek proceeds to take its revenge on its captors. But perhaps it carried over a bit more from Rose than it was expecting.

This is the perfect Dalek episode to introduce new fans to the famous Doctor Who villains, because it takes every stereotypical joke and criticism of their design and cackles maniacally in its face. The fear just one of these things generates in this episode is akin to the same fear felt when watching The Terminator: a machine whom you cannot reason with, cannot stop, and all it wants - all it NEEDS - is to kill you.
