Doctor Who: 10 Best Episodes To Get You Into The Classic Series

9. Attack Of The Cybermen

Attack Of The Cybermen Doctor Who
BBC

A somewhat unconventional choice, Attack of the Cybermen is one of the better stories from the controversial Sixth Doctor’s tenure, played by Colin Baker. It's a much darker and more violent story than what we usually see in Classic Who. The Cybermen are lurking in London’s sewers (again) and it’s up to the still newly regenerated Doctor to stop them.

While this story isn’t exactly the best Cybermen story (we’ll look at that one later), it is a great outing for the Sixth Doctor. While arrogant and spiky much like the First Doctor, Six shows all of the essential traits needed, and if you’re watching Classic Who, it’s best to get a taste of every actor in the role.

The Cybermen are menacing once you look past the questionable costume design, and Colin Baker shines in his second story, a highlight being when the Doctor forgets everything he ever said about never using guns and decides to massacre some Cybermen Rambo style. Attack of the Cybermen is a prime example of camp but gritty Doctor Who from the 80s.
