Doctor Who: 10 Directions The Show Could Go In Next
2. Bigger Productions, Bigger Stars
Starting with the upcoming 60th anniversary specials, Doctor Who will be carried by streaming service Disney+ outside of the UK and Ireland.
The show's modern era is currently available on HBO Max, while its classic run is on BritBox. It's unclear whether Disney will also get these episodes in the streaming deal, but the House of Mouse definitely has deep enough pockets to pay for them, if so desired.
The brains behind Who have already said they want the show to become a "global franchise", and Disney's subscriber count of over 100 million is a huge step towards making that happen.
It's not just through increased exposure that Doctor Who will benefit from this partnership, but also through those mountains of cash we mentioned earlier. If Disney is serious about making this show a success, then they won't have any issue pumping money into it.
Higher production budgets could turn the show from a quirky British programme into a worldwide phenomenon. And also, if there's one thing that famous actors like to do, it's star in Disney projects.
Dwayne Johnson as Omega, please.
