Doctor Who: 10 Most Disturbing Episodes

4. The Impossible Planet/The Satan Pit

What can be more disturbing than the literal pit of Satan himself? Well, this episode begged that question and provided plenty of shocking imagery outside of the big demonic red guy.

This two-part episode follows the Tenth Doctor and Rose Tyler as they land on a planet called Krop Tor which orbits a black hole. This planet, by all accounts, shouldn't exist - as the title suggests - but it does, making the entire place a mystery. Soon, an expedition team that the time-travelling pair meet begin to be haunted by an evil creature called The Beast, possessing their Ood servants and even one of the humans themselves.

Both of the episodes are filled to the brim with disturbing concepts and imagery, such as the possessed tentacle faced Ood's glowing red eyes and aggressive personalities, and the effects that possession ends up having on one of the humans, causing him to end up covered in demonic writing.

The episode's primary antagonist was a horrifying creature who was imprisoned on "The Impossible Planet". The Beast would use its consciousness to convince every culture of the existence of The Devil. It's shocking that this horrifying concept even made it onto the typically family-friendly show.
