1. Introducing John Hurt... (The Name Of The Doctor)
Just when you think you're finally starting to get your head around Doctor Who's ever expanding mythology, Steven Moffat goes and throws an almighty spanner in the works... and then some. It's always the way and never has it been more profound than back in 2013 when, on the eve of the show's far reaching 50th anniversary festivities, it was casually revealed that there had actually been a secret incarnation of our titular Time Lord that none of us ever knew about. Cue the inner fandom warfare. It's safe to say that every Doctor Who fan across the land will always remember that historic moment when Sir John Hurt turned around and changed everything they thought they knew about their favourite show. It was changed for the better, of course, as it's a generally accepted fact that the War Doctor's inception into the show's mythos is one of the best things to happen to the programme since the CyberKing got sucked into the cracks in the universe. It's probably no surprise, then, that this mesmerising moment from the end of The Name of the Doctor has made it to the top of the countdown as the most paused Doctor Who moment of the last decade. After all, it was supposed to be paused. Fans were supposed to take a moment to stop and catch their breath before ogling over a freeze frame of John Hurt's guilt ridden eyes starring ominously down the camera. What dark secrets was he harbouring? What would happen next? How were the Doctor and Clara ever going to get out of the time stream?! Unfortunately, not all of our questions - *ahem* - were destined to be answered, but it was certainly a year to remember nonetheless. What did you think of this list? Are there any other Doctor Who moments from the last 10 years that you've had to pause and recover from? Join the conversation in the comments section below.
