11. River's First Regeneration (Day Of The Moon)
OK, so none of us actually knew that it was her at the time, but it was still a pretty big moment nonetheless. Series 6's episode US-based two parter, The Impossible Astronaut and Day of the Moon, kicked off with an almighty bombshell (more on that later!) and Steven Moffat obviously wasn't content with shocking us once so he decided to end it with a timey-wimey twist, too. And it really is timey-wimey whenever River Song is concerned. Oh, the girl is River Song, by the way, if you didn't know already (spoilers, sweetie!), but, since nothing in her life ever seems to happen in the right order, nobody really knew what to think when the mysterious little girl who had previously been trapped inside the astronaut suit was now seen to be homeless and dying on the streets of New York City. It was even more befuddling when she then started to regenerate but in retrospect it makes complete sense... relatively speaking. No, but hang on, how did River then get from New York to Leadworth to grow up alongside Amy and Rory in the guise of their best friend Mels? Maybe some plot holes are just never supposed to be resolved.
