3. Stephen Thompson
If you had told me two years that I would one day be recommending Stephen Thompson as head writer for Doctor Who, I would have laughed in your face. "HA! That hack who wrote 'Curse of the Black Spot'?
That Stephen Thompson?!" To be fair, he had also written a decent story for the BBC's Sherlock series, but it didn't really stand out against Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat's episodes. But then came series two of Sherlock, and Thompson wrote the brilliant and mind-blowing "The Reichenbach Fall", and I nearly forgave him for all his past mistakes. And
then came his second Doctor Who episode, "Journey to the Centre of the TARDIS", and immediately he got onto this list. Not only did he make it onto the list, he bumped Mark Gatiss all the way off of it. Even if he doesn't get the gig of Doctor Who showrunner, he at least has an upcoming third Sherlock episode for us. Can't. Wait.
