1. Perhaps The Most Important Reason is Simplest... Peter Jackson Is A Fan
He already loves Doctor Who. Most of the best episodes of Doctor Who are written and/or directed by fans people who love this character so much they would do almost anything to spend time with him. This deep and abiding faith in the power of the Doctors story has given rise to some of the most compelling television ever produced. Take Neil Gaimans The Doctors Wife for example. Gaiman is a life-long admirer of Doctor Who having watched classic "Who" as a child. His books, such as the Sandman series or American Gods, are obviously influenced by Who though he has, of course, carried the story off in his own quirky and dazzling direction. Theres no substitute for a love for this brilliant yet flawed character the Doctor and its something that cant be faked. Peter Jackson cares deeply about the Doctor and the Doctors world. Even if his episode wasnt perfect, which of course it wont be because nothing ever is, I cant imagine it wouldnt be a fascinating, thought provoking and riveting entry into the mythos of Doctor Who.
