Doctor Who: Every Doctor's WORST Episode
2. In The Forest Of The Night (The Twelfth Doctor)
Much like the Sixth Doctor before him, Peter Capaldi’s Twelfth Doctor was initially conceived as a darker take on the titular Time Lord. As a man who would start out harsher than his predecessors before rediscovering his love for humanity and travelling the universe.
And also like the Sixth Doctor, Twelve got off to something of a rocky start.
While Series 8 has some highlights, and is a definite improvement on Series 7, it is still somewhat of a mixed bag.
For every Listen or Time Heist, there’s an episode like In The Forest of The Night. Written by accomplished screenwriter Frank Cottrell-Boyce, this ham-fisted attempt to ram an environmental message down the audience’s throat is the perfect example of what happens when you sacrifice plot for the sake of a moral lesson, even if that lesson is a valuable one.
Revealing that all trees on Earth are sentient and ready to sprout up to defend humanity against solar flares is a plot point in this episode that turns the entire planet on its head and causes seismic shockwaves throughout the Doctor Who universe.
Just kidding. It’s never brought up again and thank god for that.
